Tony's Reunion

Report by: Debra Pickman

Haunted Voices was a group scheduled to return to the house. Tony, as usual, did not approve of me returning to the house so often and voiced his feeling that he was worried. He also voiced the feeling that he would like to be able to go back with me, but that knowing what would happen, he felt he could not.

I was not sure what Tony was really trying to say. Was he looking for an invitation? Was he feeling left out? Was he simply letting me know he was worried about me bringing something back? Was he concerned for my well being while in the house? Or was he simply asking me not to go?

Although I knew and respected Tony’s thoughts about the house and what resided within the walls, I also knew that my interest and involvement had peeked many years prior. I also think that Tony respected my feelings concerning the house, even though he did not agree with them. He surely knew that there was no stopping me from going back inside.

I left that night enthusiastic to join Haunted Voices and returned to the house for the first time in months. Not being a part of their group or knowing their protocol, I followed their lead in many respects, trying to be helpful whenever I could.

Towards the end of the evening, we lit and placed a small candle on the wood floor in the center of master bedroom. The group of us stood around it and an EVP session was started. A few minutes into it we began taking turns asking the spirits in the room questions. My hand was cold and I had felt it to be the presence of Sallie, perhaps holding it.

When it was my turn, I asked if she could give us a sign that she was in the room with us. I noticed the flame of the candle flicker slightly. There was no draft in the room because we had made a point to turn off the furnace for sound purposes, so I wondered if the candle flickering had been a confirmation of her presence. The others took their turns at asking questions and soon it was again my turn. “Sallie, if you are here can you blow out the candle?”, I asked. The flame flickered again. “Is that you Sallie?” The flame seemed to dance a bit and then bend to one side. “That’s very good Sally, you almost got it. Can you try harder?” the flame seemed to react again. The rest of the group joined in. “You can do it.” “Just a little harder”, “Come on Sallie”. We continued taking turns to encourage her.

In the end, the flame did not go out. Shortly afterwards I left the investigation and went home.

Upon returning home, I sat with Tony and told him of the EVP sessions we did, of the sounds we heard and about the experience in general. He asked many questions, and again voiced many concerns. I assured him that all had gone smoothly and that no one had any negative experiences.

The next day we invited the Haunted Voices group to the house. They came in with their cameras and equipment and we sat for quite a while and talked about our experiences. Tony immediately felt comfortable with them and spoke of many things. Several of the members felt emotional as they listened to Tony speak of his experiences. And at some point Tony began getting small light scratches on his arms and face. It was decided that we should stop the conversation, which was apparently a catalyst for the activity being we were witnessing.
