Sightings Third Visit
Report by: Debra Pickman
This third visit by Sightings was again preceded by unrest from Tony, and arguments over the crew coming at all. Likewise, we were told that Sightings wanted to try to help and they were excited to bring in the well know psychic, Peter James.
We had not heard of him but were filled in with a long list of investigations he had participated in while helping in the paranormal aspect of each case. Sightings even sent a video tape of some of his work; it was on his impressive work at Alcatraz. In the end, Tony and I agreed to let the television group back one last time in hope that the experience would leave us with a better understanding of our situation.
The day came. Peter got out of the car, came around to the front of the house and looked up towards the second floor of the house only to catch a glimpse of what he felt was that of a young girl.
After the pleasantries of introductions, he walked around downstairs for a few minutes trying to make the connection to the spirit(s) of the house. After a relatively short time, he eventually moved to the bottom of the stairs, pointed to the top and said “she’s right there, can you see her?” He then called out to her, “Is your name Sally?”, to which I beamed a smile from ear to ear. It seemed that he had been able to tuned in to her and her presence at the top of the stairs.
It was also during this visit that Sightings was able to interview a previous resident of the house. Colleen had approached us after the airing of the first Sightings segment, telling us of the imaginary friend named Sally that her daughter played with when they lived in the house a few years earlier. This seemed to be additional confirmation of the little spirit we had come to know as Sally.
A short time later, while we were all upstairs and in the nursery, Peter tried to befriend the little spirit as best he could. One of the questions he asked was “what is your favorite toy?” Within a matter of minutes, we all began to feel the draftiness of the cold air that seemed to signify the little spirit's presence.
Moments after that Tony reported a sensation on the lower left part of his chest. Upon looking we found scratches that seemed to depict a word; “dolly” or “DAD”.
Now, we questioned what the word could have been given the situation, and the consensus was Dolly, only misspelled by a 7 year old ghost who may not have had much of an education during the time in which she lived. It wasn’t until looking at the photo years later, that we saw the word could just as easily been DAD.
Viewing the photos now, one might think that those are not the letters that were formed. Very possibly a correct assessment. However, at the time, we were taking several things into consideration; the likely age of the spirit that had formed the letters, and the fact she would have had little formal education were two of them. The idea that Peter, in trying to gain a rapport with her, had just asked what her favorite toy was another.
Could these scratches have been a response to a different question or something else entirely, could they have been made by a spirit other than the little girl he was trying to connect with? I think it is very possible. Of course, there is really no way to prove it one way or the other.
