She started in the bedrooms upstairs working methodically from window to window and room to room. All the while the sage stick burned as she encased each window and door with its smoke and her prayer. She then went downstairs and continued the ritual starting at the back door and working towards the front.
When she had completed her task, she told us she was ready to begin what she came to do. Together we determined that the foyer at the top of the stairs was central to most of the activity and there we would sit. Taylor had been put in his crib and was already sleeping when she arrived, so it was suggested that we maintain a low level of noise while sitting in the hall just outside his door.
Tony or I asked if it was OK that the baby was not in the circle with us, and we were told that having smudged the entire house should be enough to protect him and that she would do more as the evening progressed. It was further stated that we were not planning to do anything to aggravate the spirit(s) and they should have no reason to retaliate.
We turned off most of the lights, placed an analog recorder that she had brought along, in the center of the floor and then the three of us sat Indian style around it. We prayed quietly to collect our thoughts and strength.
At this point the focus would be on that of the woman spirit. Her actions towards Tony had been unwanted, malicious and of an inappropriate nature. The medium began by explaining to her that she didn’t belong with us and that she needed to move on. She then asked her to move towards the light and explained that there where others in the light that were there to help her.
There seemed to be a distinct change in the air and Tony reported a coldness across his shoulders that he knew meant that he’d been scratched.
The medium forcefully told the female spirit to “leave him alone” and seemingly obtained a vision of her approaching him again. “Don’t even think about it!, leave him alone!,” she repeated this many times. During the evening, the medium seemed to distinctively know when the female spirit was going to approach Tony and responded accordingly.
We sat in silence for a short time to see if she would attempt another attack, but she did not.
The medium explained that we were going to fill the house with bright light, that we needed to imagine filling each room with this light. With those instructions she began.
She called on Jesus to help us, to give us strength, and to stand by us. Then she told us that we would start by imagining a bright warm white light and that we should fill the baby’s room with it.
While in the process of filling the room with light, the medium reported that Sally was huddled in the corner and scared. We were instructed to surround Sally with the white light so as to protect her. During this time the medium tried to comfort Sally and tell her that she was safe. She tried to reassure her that it would be all right and that there was nothing to be frightened of.
